Prayer

Prayer is a spiritual discipline in which we speak “with” (not “to”) God.  It usually contains one or more of the following elements:  Adoration—our occasion to be in awe of who God is and what he does.  Confession—a recognition of our human condition of sin, and our desire to repent, or change our way of living to align with Christ’s direction.  Thanksgiving—gratitude for our acceptance by God and the myriad of blessings that come from knowing God and following Him.  Supplication—a responsible way of asking for more blessings for ourselves and others.  Intercession—praying for others and their needs.  The list could go on and on.

We can’t have relationships without talking with the ones with whom we want to relate.  We encourage personal prayer on a regular basis. We participate in praying in worship.  Though the prayers may not be our own, they often have meaning for us, and if not us, then for others.  And we share our concerns and intercessions, when invited, by both a “phone chain” and an “email chain.”
