Indoor Worship

In-person worship has been postponed

IN-PERSON WORSHIP IS CANCELLED FOR THE NEXT 30 DAYS.  PLEASE STAY IN TOUCH VIA THESE WEEKLY EMAILS AND OUR WEBSITE FOR UP TO DATE INFORMATION REGARDING RESUMPTION OF SERVICES.

Last Sunday, Pastor Steve made the decision to postpone in-person Worship for the next 30 days per the Allegheny County latest restrictions.  During this time he will be continuing the online YouTube version of worship.  He is hoping that services will be resumed for December 20th and Christmas Eve, but we will need to monitor the status of COVID in Allegheny County and the state of PA.  We will keep you posted on any changes to the worship schedule.

Online YouTube services for Sunday, November 29th - The service can be accessed on our website www.chcumc.org and choose the option for Live Stream Series for a list of available dates, the Central Highlands Facebook Page or directly by searching Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in YouTube.

WE STILL HAVE ABOUT 30 ANGEL TREE TAGS THAT NEED TO BE DISTRIBUTED.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE A GIFT FOR A LOCAL CHILD, PLEASE CALL OR STOP BY THE OFFICE.  ALSO, LYNDA KROL CAN BE CONTACTED BY EMAIL This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone (412) 600-6690.

Again this year you will have the opportunity to pick a name and provide a Christmas Gift for a local child that will be distributed through the Elizabeth Salvation Army and coordinated by Darlene Brown from the Elizabeth Baptist Church.  Each tag will include the name, age, gender and wish list for each child.  Your generosity in years past has been overwhelming and very much appreciated by these families.  Deadline for having the gifts back to the church is Sunday, December 13thPLEASE BRING YOUR GIFTS TO THE CHURCH BY DECEMBER 13TH – MONDAY-THURSDAY 8:30-2:30 OR CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE AND WE CAN ARRANGE TO PICK UP YOUR GIFT.  PLEASE PLACE THE ORIGINAL NAME TAG SECURELY AND VISIBLE ON THE PACKAGE.

Tim and Emma Durant will be heading our Toys for Tots collection on behalf of Boy Scout Troop 99.  Please consider donating a new, unwrapped & non-violent toy this Christmas Season to benefit under privileged children and youth in the Mon Valley Area.  There will be a collection box in the Narthex to drop your donations with the deadline of December 13th.  Thank you for your past generous support.  This year, more than ever, families in our area need our support. DUE TO THE CANCELLATION OF IN-PERSON WORSHIP SERVICES, FEEL FREE TO DROP ANY TOYS FOR TOTS GIFTS AT THE CHURCH OFFICE MONDAY-THURSDAY 8:30-2:30.  ALSO, TIM AND EMMA WILL BE AT THE CHURCH ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH AND SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12TH FROM 10:00 AM – NOON TO RECEIVE YOUR DONATIONS.

IN ANTICIPATION OF A RESTART OF SERVICES IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS, I WILL CONTINUE TO RECORD YOUR CHRISTMAS EVE RESERVATIONS.  ANNOUNCEMENTS PERTAINING TO CANCELLATIONS WILL BE MADE IN A TIMELY MANNER TO ALLOW FOR YOUR CHANGE IN PLANS.  The Advent Season is fast approaching and we are laying out plans for how to conduct Christmas Eve Services according to guidelines and COVID safety precautions.  It has been decided that we will have four service time options to keep attendance to the appropriate numbers.  The Worship Service times will be 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.  We will ask the congregation to please email Suzie in the office, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., to sign up for your desired time slot and number in your family.  If no email, please call the office @ 412 751-0511.  We will also be allowing enough space at each service for walk-ins.  Between services, we will need a few volunteers to sanitize the sanctuary and narthex.  We ask for your patience in this process as there may be a situation where we will need to shut-off a time slot that has filled up and ask you to make a second choice.

In addition to the Christmas Eve Sign-ups, we are asking for volunteers for ushering, temperatures, attendance, sanitizing.  Because of the number of services, we will require many volunteers.  Therefore, when you are reserving your slot for worship, please consider also volunteering.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO THE ELIZABETH SALVATION ARMY UNIT KETTLE DRIVE, YOU MAY SEND A CHECK TO THE CHURCH OFFICE MADE PAYABLE TO THE ELIZABETH SALVATION ARMY UNIT AND I WILL SEE THAT IT GETS IN THE KETTLE.  YOU MAY ALSO DROP CASH INTO THE KETTLE DURING OFFICE HOURS.  The Elizabeth Salvation Army Unit has begun their “Red Counter Kettle Drive” – now through December 31st.  If you care to donate to this local fund raiser, you can place cash or a check made payable to Elizabeth Salvation Army in the kettle.  We will be sure that your donation gets to the Unit to be used locally for families in need.  Last year the Elizabeth Unit raised over $7,000.  Thank you for your support.

Has someone in your household had surgery and is unable to shop for groceries and prepare meals?  Has there been an illness recently that does not allow for meal preparation?  You may want to consider getting meal deliveries from our Meals on Wheels program.  The price is $4.00 per day per person and a delicious full course hot meal is delivered to your doorstep along with a bag of other items to provide you with all you could eat for the day.  The MOW staff would be happy to set you up on the delivery route – even on a temporary basis while you are recuperating.  You need not get meals every day – you can choose your delivery days.  Contact Linda Way @ 412 751-2230 or call the church office.

Rev. Janet Lord has prepared a Calendar for December entitled “A Month of Anticipation”.  The calendar contains daily Scripture and weekly activities to do as a family in preparation.  There is also an Advent meditation for at home candle lighting each week with scripture and discussion topics.  I am attaching to this email or pick up a copy of each in the Narthex.
