Our Beliefs
Statement of Faith
As a Christian congregation in general, and a United Methodist Congregation in particular, we embrace the core beliefs outlined in the Apostles’ Creed:
“I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
“And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
“I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”
Along with other Christian traditions, we believe in a a perfect, holy, and sovereign God, from whom we are separated and alienated as a result of our sin. The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the story of God’s gracious restoration of the divine-human relationship. In the fullness of time, God came to us in the person of Jesus. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God was powerfully, mysteriously, and beautifully at work to reconcile the world to himself. Jesus Christ, in other words, bridges the chasm between us and God that we are not able to bridge on our own.
The most urgent mission of the church, then, is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, so that all may come to know of the salvation that God has made possible in him.
